Well, I made it to Manzanita with an hour and a half to spare. after getting the car I went to the farmers market which was very well attended and scored a delicious grilled ham and cheese sandwich for dinner.
I didn’t hear or see any vermin. Just heard one coyote howl in the predawn hours. Slept OK but a little on the cold side. The hike down to Indian Beach area was nice because I was on the service road.
Somehow I made it all the way to the hikers Camp on Tillamook head by 6:30 PM. That was quite a long haul all the way from Fort Stevens. It rained some last night and the camp was quite noisy
Official start of the OCT. i’m here at the hikers Camp at Fort Stevens. Ran into a nice kid from the UK also here to hike. Met him as we were both getting off the bus at the entrance to the campground.
Made it to the end at 1:58 PM. Started hiking at 7 AM. It sprinkled a little during the night. Kind of drippy near the top of Big Huckleberry Mountain
I just saw some blue sky over the Big Lava bed next to camp. That’s the first blue sky I’ve seen today. Last night’s campspot became a constant tree shower when blowing fog rolled in around midnight.
It’s almost hiker midnight. My latest adventure is on the PCT in Washington again completing the Indian heaven section that I bailed on last year after getting soaked for a day and a half on Mount Adams.
Got an early start today as I knew it would warm up quickly. It got really hot today. My blisters got worse. Went through some pretty areas though and took a much needed swim at Mirror lake.
Tonight I’m camped at mile 2374 on an abandoned logging track about 100 yards from a nice spring. Apparently, about a quarter mile down the same road at a turnaround is where everybody else is camped.
